When the words ‘man’ and ‘repeller’ are put together the connotations created are not particularly alluring. Who would want to repel men and why? Some of you are probably puzzled and thinking that surely one of the primary objects of this game of life is to attract a man, pin him down, tie him up and live happily ever after etc etc. In regular terms this is all fine and well, however the blogging genius that is Leandra Medine has cemented the concept of Man Repeller* firmly into the fashion world. And in her game of life it’s all about pushing the man aside and gaining independence from the clothes you wear and however you so choose to wear them.
When I first came across The Man Repeller blog (TMR) I have to admit I wasn’t entirely sure of it’s intended ‘theme’. Most fashion blogs tend to follow a rather strict sequence; up and coming fashion trends, OOTD (outfit of the day that is, for anyone who has been living under an Instagram rock) or the ‘look at me in this exotic country wearing these exquisite (yet extremely unattainable) designer clothes’ set up. Eventually it is this uncertainty that draws you in and you realise that TMR is sharing with you, quite simply, her own unique style, along with the satisfaction that can come from wearing the clothes you love while not giving a damn about which trend you’re following or person (apart form yourself) you’re pleasing.
The result is a woman whose outfits at times, are so anti fashionable that she becomes undeniably stylish. You’re left thinking ‘maybe I CAN wear that dress/hat/t-shirt with those trousers/loafers/gloves that I have in my wardrobe, even if they’re not gracing the pages of the current fashion monthly...’ This inspiration is coupled with quirky and intelligent writing that allows readers and followers to relate wholeheartedly to the stories and styles TMR is showcasing.
Not only has Leandra Medine emerged as one of the top bloggers and a muse for style hunters and fashion writers alike, a recent footwear collaboration has confirmed her sought after status and her influence, especially within the digital fashion sphere. The Man Repeller x Superga creations are the ultimate casual shoe, stamped with Leandra’s personal style in the form of red, emerald or black velour or gold and silver shimmering, tweed high tops and flats. Take your pick. And check out the super cute man repelling promo video here.
If you haven't yet read any of TMR’s recent stylistic ramblings and are in search of some materialistic insight, but not forgetting some mental stimulation, then this is the one and only expert man repeller you need to follow.
* 'outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive mode that may result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.'
