January is the time of year when many new beauty rituals begin. You've been gifted with all sorts of lotions and potions at Christmas and using them signifies a new you for the new year. So, here are some of the beauty buys I have acquired over the past month, which I am certain will stay within my possession throughout the whole year.
The Shu Uemura cleansing oil has become a cult beauty product. After being recommended to me by my mum (fountain of knowledge for most of my skincare buys), it has been a permanent feature in my daily routine. Some people may be slightly dubious of using an 'oil' on their skin, especially if they're prone to breakouts. Typically I have combination skin so was among this wary group. However, Shu Uemura have specifically created the beauty oils for all skin types and its light formulation cleanses and removes makeup and dirt extremely effectively, leaving your skin feeling silky soft and grease free. The glorious, pastel pink version (Fresh), for younger, T-Zone skin, is my favourite so far.
I never thought scented candles would be high on my wish list but once you've had a sniff of any of the intense Diptyque fragrances, such as Violette or Feu de Bois, you're hooked. The same goes for Jo Malone colognes. I received the Lime, Basil and Mandarin scent for Christmas and although for me it's more reminiscent of spring/summer months, I've worn it every day (helped by its handy handbag size) and look forward to trying out other favourite scents such as Pomegranate Noir and Blackberry and Bay.
Another cult beauty range comes from Liz Earle. Her Cleanse and Polish is one of the most loved and recommended facial cleansers on the market but it's the moisturiser from the range that I have fallen for. This is not a recent discovery, I've been using the Skin Repair Moisturiser for three years now, switching only a couple of times to other brands (not out of choice but for ease or money purposes), and will never let it leave my cosmetics case again. Its rich texture but fast absorption, along with the subtle fragrance and calming effect it has on the skin are some of the reasons this moisturiser is a beauty essential.
Lastly, two treats for your make up bag. My go-to bronzer, for as long as I can remember has been Mac Mineralize. This natural powder is ideal for an all over hint of colour but too light a shade for contouring, hence why I picked up the Sleek palette from Superdrug. Choosing either dark, medium or light the compact comprises of three shades to create the perfect contour, highlight and blush. The colours have great pigmentation, are neither too matte nor too shimmery and at under £10 it's superb value. Colder weather months are not kind to your lips and mine are very prone to chapping, so when I received the adorably packaged Sara Happ Lip Slip as a gift from family friends across the pond, my lips were instantly grateful. This little tub of sugary sweet lip balm is super glossy, hydrating and feels like you're slipping something very comfortable onto your lips.
