Being a student, as well as a devoted lover of all clothes and accessories, can at times create a great deal of impossibilities. Ironically, it was my time spent studying when I developed this fashion fixation, endless hours of Law lectures (i.e. browsing online and scouring through Vogue) can do that to a person. Basically, the issue at hand for me, and many other students I assume, is a limited disposable income paired with a continuous lusting after items that resemble high end hits along with their price tags.
A piece of advice my mother gave me, which I’ve only recently started to follow, is that it’s definitely worthwhile spending that bit extra on items which are going to last, and not end up on eBay in a couple of months time. Nonetheless forking out £150 for an Acne cashmere sweater or £200 on AllSaints Biker boots is not always feasible. These said reasons are why I have quickly become a dedicated fan of the relatively new to the UK store, & Other Stories.
The Swedish brand is the stylish middle sibling of H&M and COS, higher quality and pricing than the former but much more affordable and chic than the latter. As their name suggests, & Other Stories design clothes and accessories for women who enjoy creating their own style and they illustrate this through individual ‘fashion stories’, which can be found on their unique and aesthetically appealing website.
What I love so much about this new brand is its ability to invent clothes that are individual, of premium quality and not solely trend oriented. Pieces such as thisButton Up Dress, Silk Peplum Top and Metal and Leather Ankle Boots are certainly ‘Investment Pieces’ (as my mum would say). Additionally, they won’t leave you feeling sick with guilt after you’ve clicked Pay Now and you’re unlikely to bump into anyone else wearing your purchase (with only one physical store located on London’s Regent Street).
For me, & Other Stories is now my go to shopping destination and is likely to be so throughout the rest of my frugal (yet fashionable) twenties.
